As audience made regularly remarks about speech intelligibility in the main hall, an acoustic investigation was executed in this hall. This investigation showed that a number of shortcomings. As a major renovation was at hand, plans could be made to improve the acoustics. For this, walls were reorientated such sound was better supported towards the audience, absorption was reduced, low frequency absorption added and a sound reflector above the stage opening was added. All those measures led to an improved speech intelligibility and more uniform coverage of sound.
